Biomarkers in Cerebral Palsy At present, there is a great need to develop and evaluate new methods of treatment for neurodevelopmental diseases. Some of the promising new treatment methods are Early Intensive Behavioral Intervention, used in Scandinavia, and the Kozijavkin method, developed in the Ukraine. Scientists from different countries and disciplines should combine their efforts to develop novel tools to improve quality of life in patients.
On 8-10 March 2006 an International Conference was held in Truskavets aimed at the discussion of the new approaches for the treatment of neuro-developmental diseases. One important result from this meeting was a project aimed at identifying and characterizing biomarkers profiles in neuro-developmental diseases and especially Cerebral Palsy. These biomarkers may then be compiled and eventually result in diagnostic and prognostic tools. Further there is the potential to also identify novel predictors that will enable a doctor to choose the most effective therapy (theranostic tools).
