Training Chair

To develop trunk movement coordination and improve postural control, the training chair has been designed. Sensors of the chair define the position and motion of trunk in three planes – bending forward and backward, side bending, and turning. This information is sent to the computer and is used to control the computer game.

The “Bee in the Park” three-dimensional game has been designed to work with the training chair. The child is sitting in the training chair, with his back fixed to the chair back. During the game the child controls his/her game object in three-dimensional virtual game world while bending forward, backward, sideward or turning his/her trunk.

Traveling in the park and performing the game tasks the game player is to fight other game heroes – a spider, a bumblebee, or a caterpillar. Jumping over the bushes or barriers he/she is to find and collect as many flowers as he/she can, and escape the enemy.

The use of training chair allows to effectively improve the trunk motor control, develop movement coordination and train muscle strength.
